Keep your head still: these are eye movements, not head movements. Clasp your hands together (see figure) and hold your thumb (or an object) directly in front of your nose, about fourteen to sixteen inches from your face. While keeping your eyes focused on your thumbs, slowly move your thumbs in these patterns: start with left/right movements, then up/down movements and then diagonal movements. Now move your thumbs in a circle, and then in a figure-eight. If this movement hurts or creates discomfort or nausea, consult your optometrist.
