I was honored to visit two truly dynamic optometry schools as part of the COVD (College of Optometrists in Vision Development) Tour of Optometry.
Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) – Fullerton, CA
I had the opportunity to meet with most of the pediatric/vision therapy faculty during my visit to Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). We discussed vision therapy and treatment for Traumatic Brain injury patients. Approximately 70 energetic optometry students attended the Tour lecture and dinner. They were inquisitive and participated well with the demonstrations.
Western University College of Optometry (WUCO)
Located in Pomona, California, Western University College of Optometry (WUCO) is a brand new, progressive optometry school. The new, high-tech facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of Dec. 2009. The emphasis of this optometry program centers on vision therapy and rehabilitation. Over 65 first year students attended the Tour lecture/lunch. Following my presentation, the students asked amazing questions for over 20 minutes. I had to leave the discussion to attend the faculty meeting. It was wonderful to meet the WUCO faculty and administration. Truly a collaborative, inspirational team!
