Many families are going to open their holiday gifts this year, finding new movies and TV technology that provides 3d stereo vision. What most people don’t realize, is that some of their family members may not be able to appreciate the 3d stereo effects. 4% of the population is stereo blind and 25% of school-aged children have vision problems that may interfere with and learning and seeing 3d stereo.
Some of the signs that your child (or adult) may not be able to see 3d stereo comfortably or at all include:
- dizziness, headaches or nausea when watching 3d stereo
- poor awareness of depth and judgement of space
- clumsiness or avoidance of sports
- fear of going up/down escalators or stairs
Check out Dr. Carole Hong’s article in the Parenting magazine (click here) and COVD to read more about 3d stereo vision.
Enjoy the magic of the new 3d stereo technology…if you can. Otherwise, consider that vision therapy can often improve 3d stereo vision.
