Visualization! The Power in the Olympics

Dr. Charlotte Reznick, psychologist, has a great article, published in Psychology Today, on the importance of visualization with athletes. She features several of the Olympic athletes who are masters of utilizing visualization for their training and performances.

Per Dr. Reznick’s article, “Recently there was a fabulous video touting the accolades of imagery and mental visualization from the Washington Post. Not surprisingly, the feature was with Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian ever – with 22 medals – and his long-term coach Bob Bowman.”

The lessons from these Olympians live on.  Using the skills of visualization can impact you and your child’s life in all areas, not just sports.

Dr. Reznick’s 9 back-to-school lessons are:

  1. Be persistent
  2. Visualize
  3. It’s never too early to start
  4. It’s never too late to start-start today!
  5. Imagine perfection
  6. Look from all angles
  7. Prepare for the worst and how to handle it
  8. Practice to program your brain
  9. Work = Physical Practice + Mental Rehearsal
