What People Are Saying About
See It. Say It. Do It!
I have been enjoying reading your book! There is so much that is so easily implemented.

Do It!” is going gangbusters, and as a speaker, she brings her deep expertise to the stage with flair and passion. I recommend Lynn without reservation, and would JUMP at the opportunity to work with her.”

I would like to add that with my patients (especially the young ones) I now have them draw out what they are to do for therapy for the following week. Watching them visualize before they draw the picture is priceless. They now take ownership with the activities and initial each time they do it. We used to have the parents mark off the activities. The kids are so proud when they bring back the notes the following week.
Thank you for the Tah dahs! :O)

My daughter has always been ahead of her peers with an advanced vocabulary but she couldn’t read very well. Once she got to first grade, this started to really become a problem. An optometrist told us that her eye sight was fine and had nothing to say when she mentioned that the letters jumped around the page. During a long test, a teacher noticed that she often closed one eye and recommended a Behavioral Optometrist, Dr. Hellerstein. It was discovered that her eyes didn’t work together as a team and while she knew how to read, her reading ability was that of a Kindergartner. Vision therapy was the recommendation. After six months of therapy, reading comes very easily. Her eyes work in unison, she visualizes what she reads, and her reading level has jumped three grades. In effect, her learning disability has been erased. I hate to think of the problems she would have had as she grew older if we hadn’t have found Dr. Hellerstein!!!

We are exploding with excitement about your book. I just ordered 4 more and gave one to my optometric colleague, one to my therapist, one is out in the waiting area with a sign-up sheet for purchase for parents/patients who want one. We are talking to all of our patients about it and I am going to give them out to local teachers as Christmas gifts…SO, I am psyched that my hundred book order will be here so fast – thank you.
THANK YOU for writing such a great book. I learned so much from it. I also love that you shared so many personal stories throughout. I felt like this book pulls developmental optometry together. We are really on the precipice of a revolution. You are amazing.
I just had an article in our local paper and it has generated great interest. It has been fantastic. I’ve had articles before but I think that with books like Sue Barry’s, and now yours, we have so much more “support” in our local communities than before.

“If you imagine it, you can achieve it. If you dream it, you can become it.”- William Arthur Ward
How many times have we seen the impossible become possible through a simple thought or dream? Can you imagine all the possibilities and opportunities that would open up in your life just by taking one small step towards your dream or goal?
In Dr. Lynn F. Hellerstein’s book, See It. Say It. Do It!, she reinforces this concept of visualization. By teaching a child to visualize first, then to verbally affirm that goal as if he has already achieved it, and finally to take the necessary actions to accomplishing that goal, you are giving that child invaluable tools that will last him his whole lifetime. You will have instilled a self-confidence that would ensure him to become successful in any area of his life.
It sounds so simple, and yet we don’t even realize what an impact it could actually have in our daily lives. Some of us already use visualization and don’t even know it, but we don’t use visualization to its full potential. But if we start now, we can teach ourselves, children, and others how such a simple, yet powerful concept can truly alter people’s lives forever.
Dr. Hellerstein shows us how easily we can learn and teach visualization techniques by giving us step-by-step instructions and fun activities that can be utilized in any age group. If you want to make a difference in someone’s life, or even in your own, then you need to read this book and discover for yourself just how powerful your visualization can be for you!

Dr. Lynn: I Loved your book and REALLY appreciate all the effort you put into making it so readable. I am a doer and not a reader or researcher so this book was perfect for me. The greatest immediate impact it had on my life was doing the belly breathing and going for a balloon ride so that I can go to sleep at night when the day is whirling in my head.
Thanks for all you do for our profession!

Got your book. So excited to get it. immediately thought of several people who would benefit from it. Calling where to get more. I will spread the word. It’s a great book and I’m anxious to get the word out on it.

I was reading See It. Say It. Do It! in your reception room. Tried a few of your strategies at home. My daughter takes forever to shower. We visualized the process of taking a shower, set a timer. She took her shower, no messing around – I couldn’t believe it could that easy.

The spelling visualization is like magic. Ever since using it when we study for our spelling tests, she’s getting 100% on her spelling test (she used to miss many words).

What a great book for teachers and parents! Daily I hear the frustration of students, parents and teachers as they struggle together to make learning happen. See It, Say It, Do It!, is a great tool to help children and adults learn to use visualization to help with spelling, math, sports and reading comprehension. As a great reader, you can imagine all the vivid details of the latest novel you are reading. You get a “mental movie.” Those that struggle with their visual skills may never have had this joy. Here is a tool to turn on those mental movies and help end some of the struggle!

If your child is challenged with homework, sports, music, paying attention in class … if your child appears to be de-focused or unhappy, then Dr. Lynn Hellerstein’s book is the perfect remedy. Created in a parent/teacher and child friendly format, there are many Activities that are fun and practical and designed to engage/re-engage your child. The illustrations are terrific.
See It. Say It. Do It! belongs in every teacher’s desk and in every parent’s table. You will scratch your head and wonder why this visionary pioneer’s concepts and teachings aren’t implemented in every school and parenting class.
My only regret is that I didn’t have it when we struggled with my son years ago. Highly recommended.

The Confidence Factor
As an optometrist, I found this book an essential resource for parents, educators and anyone interested in children’s development. Dr. Lynn Hellerstein discusses an important aspect of vision: the ability to visualize. Many people who struggle in spelling, math, reading comprehension and sports may be lacking the ability to visualize. The beauty of this book is its clear, simple and logical presentation. It answers questions such as what it means to have good vision, how to identify visual problems, and its relationship to a child’s struggles in school. It also provides effective strategies and exercises to improve the ability to visualize, and translating that skill to day-to-day activities.
After reading this book, you will realize that vision is more than seeing 20/20. When you incorporate Dr. Hellerstein’s techniques, you can help increase your child’s ability to learn effectively, and ultimately their confidence to succeed!

Dr. Hellerstein has created a remarkable resource for all teachers and therapists. I use the techniques and strategies outlined in See It. Say It. If you work with students who are struggling, or you just want to help a child (or yourself) reach you goals more easily, this is the book for you!

Hi Lynn, Congratulations, I just finished reading your book. You did a great job of presenting your strategies so that they can be understood and applied easily. I am giving your book to my son. Our granddaughter, Riely, is in VT right now.

As a parent of a special needs child, I only wish this book had been available to me when my daughter was younger. It would have reinforced all that work we were doing with therapists. I believe it would have helped teachers understand how to educate her building on their own expertise, thus accelerating my daughter’s learning experience. This author understands that learning takes a little practical magic, a belief that all kids can learn and a child’s future is rich with possibilities. Kudo’s for a well-written,accessible book–a perfect guide for all parents.

Wow! That balloon trip really worked. My 9-year old daughter has been waking up around 12:30PM every night. It takes us a long time to get her back to sleep. Last night, after learning about a balloon trip at your Tattered Cover Book Signing, we took a balloon trip when she woke us up. She went back to sleep very quickly, nestled in the fluffy, warm clouds! Thanks so much Lynn.

Vision Therapy Testimonials
“My daughter now reads without struggling and without arguing with me to do it. Her confidence has grown tremendously. Also, her ability to concentrate and complete her work is no longer a problem. This has been a great experience for all of us.”
“He now reads more quickly and fluently. He went from a child who dreaded reading assignments to one that has a favorite book that he reads just for fun. Work at school and at home does not take as long and therefore he is able to do many other activities. His report card assessment went from being below grade level in some reading and writing areas in 2nd grade to being to straight A’s in all subjects in 4th grade! His confidence in his abilities has soared.”
“It was an extreme relief to understand that there was a physical cause in my child’s school issues and, more importantly, there were concrete steps to improve my child’s performance.”
“I was able to write more songs and not get frustrated like before. My handwriting got better and I could write more assignments in school. Headaches went away. I am more organized and less frustrated.”
“He went from being a non-reader to fulfilling his potential as a high level reader over the course of that one year. His success is school is entirely indebted to it.”
“My son is doing better in school and enjoys reading more now.”
“I think he had a better attitude about writing because it was easier for him.”
“I believe that vision therapy definitely helped my son in many ways. The area he most improved in was reading. The second area was balance and fine motor skills. Sadly, I believe that because we didn’t realize the problem until late into his first grade year, his writing fundamentals were not firmly rooted, and we are still struggling with this in fourth grade.”
“We spent less time doing his homework and it wasn’t such a struggle to get through.”
“Reading was always a joy before my accident; post, it became a burden. With therapy, I was able to read again … and write … something I wasn’t able to do for 18 months.”
“The therapy I received greatly improved my functioning. I am now much quicker and more efficient when it comes to my work. Additionally, my eye-strain was greatly reduced which has led to more stamina.”
